27-60 1.6

91+ 1.8

*Students failing all coursework during the first semester at the University will be automatically suspended.

10) How does my student register for classes?

The first step is to meet with their academic advisor. A couple weeks before academic advising begins, the student should schedule an appointment with their advisor. Most professors have a sign up sheet outside their office door.

A week or two before advising begins, your student should have access to all courses being offered. They can access this information through Banner Web. With this information they should create a couple different options for schedules they'd like to have during the next semester.

At the advising meeting they should present these options to their advisor. There they will discuss if the schedule created helps the student move forward with their academic goals. A pin number will be given once the advisor signs off on the agreed upon schedule.

The next step is to find out the day and time your student is able to register. This schedule is based upon class standing and the number of course hours already accepted.

On the day and time your student is to register, they should have already made sure they can sign into Banner Web and have their schedule with CRN #'s ready. The CRN # is a special code given to differentiate all classes being offered at the university.

Once in Banner Web, the student should click on Student Services, then Registration, then Add or Drop Classes. They will then be asked to choose the semester they are registering for. Once that is chosen they will be prompted to enter the registration pin number they received at their advising appointment. From there all they need to do is type in the CRN #'s for all the classes they wish to take in the following semester. It is recommended that your student sign into Banner Web a couple minutes before their registration time and perform all tasks that lead to the registration pin number screen. As soon as the clock changes to their allotted time the student will be able to enter their pin number and gain access for registration.

For more information, please go to the Registrars Web site. http://www.stetson.edu/registrar/

11) What can I do if my child cannot get into a required course?

The student can e-mail the professor of the course and ask if they could receive an override into the class. If this is not an option, the student can ask to be placed on the Waiting List. We recommend that your student have a back-up schedule in case they are not able to get their first choice.

12) How does my student change his/her major?

If a student wishes to change their major within the same college then they should go to their assigned Dean. For example, if your student is a Political Science Major in the College of Arts and Sciences, and wishes to change their major to Biology, which is also in the College of Arts and Sciences, they will need to simply fill out a form in their Dean's office.

If your student wishes to change their major and go to a different college they will first have to "check-out" of their assigned college by filling out a form from their present Dean. They should then go to the Dean's office of the college which they are switching into and fill out the form they offer to declare a major. For example, if your student is a Political Science major and wishes to become a Finance major in the School of Business they would have to follow this process. In order to switch into the School of Music, your student must have an audition.

15) Who should my student see if they are having any difficulty:

In Class: The student can set-up an appointment with their professor to discuss what help options they have. Most areas of study have tutoring clinics and many professors are able to spend office time with a student in need of extra help. Stetson also has an Academic Resources Center which offers help in many areas such as studying techniques, time management skills, or any disabilities.

In their Residence Hall: The student can speak with their Residential Assistant or with the Department of Housing and Residential Life. reslife@stetson.edu 386-822-7201
