Steven Guthrie

Assistant Professor of Biology

Steven Guthrie, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of biology. He is a molecular cell biologist with expertise in blood vessel development from adult stem cells. He initially came to Stetson University as a Brown Visiting Scholar in fall 2011 and he has served as a visiting assistant professor in the biology department from spring 2011 to the present. He came to Stetson University with considerable teaching experience at both Huntingdon College and Samford University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida, where he studied factors that promote blood vessel formation, particularly in bone marrow-derived stem cells during the development of cancer. At Stetson University, he plans to study the effectiveness of a range of chemotherapy drugs on persistent cancers in collaboration with a research oncologist at the University of Florida. He received his bachelors of science from Albright College in biology with a philosophy minor.
