Jesus Alfonzo
Associate Professor of Music--Viola
Jesus Alfonzo is associate professor of viola, chamber music, string method and music history at Stetson University. He is also member of the Bach Festival Orchestra in Winter Park, Fla. In addition, Alfonzo conducts the Viola Consort and leads the Viola Clinic at Stetson University. He has been a member of the Rios Reyna String Quartet since 1987.
Jesus Alfonzo is Venezuelan. He is a founding member of the EL SISTEMA (National System of Children and Youth Orchestras of Venezuela) in which he had the opportunity to develop both his teaching and playing skills. He was Principal Viola of Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra for sixteen years. He has made appearances as a soloist in the United States, South America, and Europe.
Since 1998, Alfonzo has been giving an annual series of master classes at EL SISTEMA in Venezuela.
