Mary Sanders Pollock
Nell Carlton Professor of English
Professor Pollock began her Stetson career as an assistant professor of English in 1985, specializing in 19th century British literature. She has served as Director of Graduate Studies in English, Director of the Women and Gender Studies (now Gender Studies) Program and chair of the Gender Equity Council. Besides British literature, Professor Pollock teaches courses in gender studies, animal studies, nature writing and environmental literature. She has offered first-year and junior seminars on environmental issues.
After publishing her study of the Brownings, "Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning: A Creative Partnership" (Ashgate 2003), Dr. Pollock’s scholarly interests expanded to include animal studies, with "Figuring Animals: Essays in Art, Literature, Philosophy, and Popular Culture" (edited with Catherine Rainwater, Palgrave 2005). More recently, Dr. Pollock has published "Victorian Literature and Film Adaptation" (edited with Abigail Burnham Bloom, Cambria 2011) and completed a manuscript entitled "Storytelling Apes: The Evolution of Primatology Field Narratives."
