John Rasp
Associate Professor of Statistics
Dr. John Rasp is originally a Midwestern boy—he was raised in the St. Louis area, and attended college in Indiana. After experiencing far too many cold and snowy winters, he got smart and headed south. He attended graduate school at Florida State, then taught for five years at the University of Alabama before coming to Stetson. In addition to normal teaching duties, over the years he has served as advisor to several student organizations, including the Chess Club, the College Libertarians, the Honor System Council, and Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He has a master's degree in theological studies, obtained after fourteen years of part-time study "just for fun."
A popular yet academically demanding teacher, he has received the William Hugh McEniry Award for Teaching (the top faculty award on campus) and has three times been named "Teacher of the Year" in the School of Business Administration. His intellectual interests are wide-ranging and eclectic, and he has published research on statistical applications in a variety of disciplines, including accounting, marketing, labor law, literary analysis, and baseball.
