Anthony Hose

Associate Professor of Music

Anthony Hose began playing piano at age 3 and gave his first recital at age 6. While a student he recorded the music for Franco Zeffirelli's National Theatre production of "Much Ado about Nothing" in London and the premiere of Peter Shaffer's "The Royal Hunt of the Sun" in Chichester. In addition to being Director of Orchestras at Stetson University, he serves as  Artistic Director of the Beaumaris Festival and Principal Conductor of the Welsh Chamber Orchestra.

He is a frequent guest conductor with the Orlando Philharmonic and has recently worked worked with the Naples Philharmonic. A CD of works by Welsh composer Alun Hoddinott was released in the fall of 2009 and another of Michael Tippett's music is due for release shortly. He has a repertoire of over 90 operas, ranging from Handel to Tippett and including most of the operatic repertoire of Mozart, Verdi, and Puccini.

His British television series "The Story and the Song" was a prizewinner in the New York Film Festival and The Madrigal Players, of which he was the musical director, a prizewinner in the Prague Film Festival. For BBC television, he has conducted Britten's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and the world premiere of "The Servants" by William Mathias. He founded the Buxton International Festival, where he has conducted many operas including the first complete performance in Britain of Kodály's Háry János and Cherubini's Medée. Opera magazine in the UK listed the "Beatrice and Benedict" performances he conducted at Buxton in the top 30 opera productions worldwide since 1945. His BBC radio broadcasts include Tchaikovsky's "The Queen of Spades," "Hamlet" (Thomas), Britten's "The Turn of the Screw" and Albert Herring, Cavalli's "Jason," which he directed from the harpsichord in his realization, and Kodály's folk opera, The Spinning Room.
