A unit of the School of Business Administration, the Department of Decision and Information Sciences houses the Applied Statistics minor.The Applied Statistics minor is open to students in all majors. It aims to give students a background in statistical methods that will sharpen their analytic skills and help them pursue careers in a number of quantitatively oriented areas. Fields such as quality and productivity, financial analysis, marketing research, and auditing are increasingly looking for people with understanding of statistical tools. Students considering pursuing graduate studies, whether in the social and natural sciences, business, education, or the humanities, will also find special value in the minor, as research methodologies increasingly utilize statistical techniques.

Faculty

Faculty members in the Department of Decision and Information Sciences are committed to student learning through teaching excellence. They are actively involved in innovative research; scholarly activities; professional organizations; using creative educational methods; service to the department, school and university; and providing consulting services to business organizations.

  • John M. Rasp, Ph.D, Florida State University; coordinator of Applied Statistics minor, received Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award in Business School; statistics, forecasting techniques, financial modeling, baseball statistics, literary analysis
  • Betty M. Thorne, Ph.D. candidate, Indiana University; statistical analysis, art of teaching statistics

Course Information

Coursework for the Applied Statistics minor includes Introduction to Statistics, Quantitative Methods for Business Decisions, Forecasting, and Experimental Design and Data Analysis.
