A joint program of the College of Arts & Sciences and the School of Business Administration, the Sport Management program provides a strong liberal arts background along with a foundation in the study of business. A major in Sport Management prepares students for careers in the sport and leisure industries in areas such as sport marketing and management, athletic administration, public relations and sport information. Students in the major are provided opportunities to work with sport and recreation professionals in interscholastic, intercollegiate, private, public and professional sports settings. A five-year program leading to the B.A. and M.B.A. is also available to qualified students.

Course Information

Sport Management coursework includes Sport Leadership and Administration, Promotion and Development of Sport Programs, Sport Law, Sport Psychology, and Sport Marketing. A required field experience or internship and a Senior Project in a sport management area give students actual experience and an entry level opportunity in the field of his/her specific interest. As a Sport Management major, you are also required to take business courses that will give you the rigorous business skills necessary to succeed in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

Internship Opportunities

The field experience/internship program is an integral part of the Sport Management major. The program benefits from ready access to Stetson's NCAA Division I athletics program, fielding 13 men's and women's teams. Sport Management students also have opportunities for internships/field experiences in private and professional organizations that provide "hands on" learning. Past internships have included experiences with the Orlando Magic, Florida Marlins, Baltimore Ravens, NASCAR, USTA, minor league baseball and hockey teams, and private golf and tennis clubs.

Career Opportunities

Sport Management prepares students for a variety of exciting careers in the growing sports industry. The major combines sport knowledge and skills with business knowledge and skills.

Alumni Highlights

Sport Management alumni are employed by many top level sport organizations including the Orlando Magic (director of public relations), Baltimore Ravens (sport marketing), Walt Disney World (director of golf), Old Dominion University (basketball coach), University of South Florida (assistant athletic director), University of South Alabama (basketball coach), Daytona Beach Community College (basketball coach), and Western Carolina University and Bethune-Cookman College (sports information). Several graduates currently work as sport agents. Some alumni have also chosen to continue study at the graduate level or to enter professional schools. 

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Many of our Sport Management majors receive financial aid in various forms including athletic scholarship, grants, work study, loans programs, and need-based financial aid.
