Have you ever wondered why some stores carry products that others don`t? Or how companies determine whether a new soft drink will be successful or fizzle out? In Marketing, students gain decision-making skills that lead to success in fields ranging from retailing and market research to advertising and sales management. Stetson`s small classes give students maximum interaction with their professors. Our newly renovated Lynn Business Center offers access to state-of-the-art software that helps students grasp current marketing concepts and prepare for inevitable changes. Stetson`s Marketing program includes real-world experiences both in and outside the classroom. Professors stress hands-on learning and students work on projects with practical applications, including marketing research for actual business clients in the DeLand, Daytona Beach, and northern Orlando areas. Students try their hand at designing new products and writing advertising and promotions plans. In other words, we tackle real-world problems and current industry challenges. And most students choose to do an internship, where they get to hone skills, gain valuable job experience, and build contacts even before graduation.
Faculty Marketing faculty members in Stetson`s School of Business Administration offer diverse professional backgrounds and academic expertise, but their primary goal is excellence in teaching. They are: - Michelle DeMoss, Ph.D., University of Florida; her experience in marketing research is put to practical use as she divides her Marketing Research students into teams that take on research projects for various community organizations.
- Carolyn Nicholson, Ph.D., Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; her cutting-edge research in such publications as the Journal of Retailing gives her students an advantage in her Channels of Distribution course, which involves both discussing the latest distribution strategies and conducting field research.
- Rebecca Oliphant, Ph.D., Florida State University; she puts her experience as an owner of a real-estate publication to good use in developing real-world role playing scenarios for her Professional Selling course.
Special Features The Marketing Career Development Experience is a unique course offering for our Marketing majors. Career Opportunities Marketing is a very broad field, and career opportunities are limited only by a student`s ambition. Since the 1960s, marketing has become the dominant business philosophy. Retailing gives gradutes an immediate opportunity to use marketing skills in positions like personal selling, buying, and department and store management. Sales not only offers good career opportunities but also is a good stepping-stone into marketing management. Marketing research can lead to positions in research firms, advertising agencies, or in-house marketing departments that need problem-solvers and information gatherers. Career opportunities are available on both the managerial and creative sides of advertising.
