| Why Stetson University is Different | ||
A bright mind is never happy on the sidelines. A bright mind is meant to be wide open to all the intellectual adventures it encounters. That conviction is the foundation of the academic prestige Stetson University has enjoyed since 1883. Our mission reflects our convictions -- to provide an excellent education in a creative community where learning and values meet, and to foster in students the qualities of mind and heart that will prepare them to serve as informed citizens of their local communities and the world. This promise to create and learn has spurred us to be pioneers more than once during our history. Our series of "firsts" began with our founding as the first private university in Florida. We also pioneered the first School of Music, School of Business Administration, College of Law, and elementary and secondary education programs in Florida. Florida's first theatrical company began at Stetson. Our men's basketball team was the first in Florida to earn 1,000 victories. Today, more than 125 years after Stetson first opened its doors to students, our mission remains the same. Above all, our teachers are dedicated to teaching undergraduates. Excellent classroom instruction is our top priority, and our undergraduates take an active part in our research endeavors. Everywhere you look, you'll see the emphasis we place on values -- in our classrooms, in our student organizations, and in our everyday interactions with each other. We foster an environment that is supportive and respectful, where we share ideas, faith, and cultures to create a place where learning is fun and the community truly unique. |
