Location The DeLand campus, just 25 miles from Daytona Beach and 35 miles from Orlando, is home to the College of Arts & Sciences, School of Business Administration, and School of Music. The College of Law is located in St. Petersburg/Gulfport, the Tampa Law Center is in downtown Tampa and the Stetson University Center at Celebration is in the Orlando area.
History Stetson University was founded in 1883. Our 175-acre DeLand campus is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and our turn-of-the-century buildings have been modernized and updated without losing their charm. The latest additions to the DeLand campus are six residential halls (2007), five of which feature apartment-style living. The following construction projects totaling $17 million are under way or will begin soon, with completion scheduled for the 2008-2009 academic year: the Sage Hall Science Center addition to the existing science facility; Mary B. McMahan Hall, an addition to the School of Music's Presser Hall; the Homer and Dolly Hand Art Center; the Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Environmental Learning Center; a softball training facility at Patricia Wilson Field; and renovation of five fraternity houses.
Faculty Stetson's DeLand campus has 195 full-time faculty members, 95 percent of whom hold Ph.D. or equivalent degrees and who teach all undergraduate classes. Our student/faculty ratio is 11-to-1.
Student Body Our more than 2,260 undergraduates come from 44 states and 42 foreign countries. Fifty-seven percent of our students are female and 43 percent are male.
Degrees There are more than 60 majors and minors leading to the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education or Bachelor of Business Administration degrees. Master's degrees are offered by the School of Business Administration in Accounting and Business Administration and the College of Arts & Sciences in Education, English and Counseling. The Juris Doctor and a Master of Laws in International Law and Business are offered by the College of Law, which guarantees admission to Stetson undergraduates who meet challenging academic requirements. A joint Juris Doctor-Master of Business Administration (JD-MBA) program with the School of Business Administration allows students to earn both degrees in a shorter time than would otherwise be required.
Study Abroad Stetson University offers study abroad programs in Spain, France, Germany, Mexico, England (Nottingham and Oxford), Russia, and China, as well as a Washington, D.C., semester and the Summer Business Program in Innsbruck, Austria.
Athletics Stetson is a member of the NCAA Division I Atlantic Sun Conference and offers a variety of intercollegiate sports, including men's baseball, women's softball, and men and women's basketball, tennis, golf, crew, cross country, and soccer. Junior varsity opportunities are available in baseball, crew, tennis, and golf.
Student Life Stetson is home to more than 100 student organizations, including service and special interest groups, student government, and 17 scholastic and honorary societies (including Omicron Delta Kappa, Mortar Board, Phi Beta Kappa, and Alpha Kappa Psi). There are seven Greek national fraternities and six national sororities.
