Most academic libraries follow the cataloging practices, spelling, birth and death dates, title designations, and subject headings used by the Library of Congress. While this may seem arbitrary or perplexing, it ensures that all the information is cataloged under consistent headings with cross-references for other versions of the name or term. The Library of Congress has now made these internal records available to the public at:
Use keywords on 'words or phrase' of Power Search; choose significant
words joined by 'and'
e.g.

To retrieve all forms of a word, enter a few letters followed by a dollar sign, e.g.

Be careful with spellings: for difficult names, such as those transliterated from Russian, using a Browse search will direct you to the 'correct' spelling used in our online catalog
To find information on a particular composer or topic as a subject (biography, genre study), use the 'Subject' line

DATABASES FOR MUSIC INFORMATION:
There is a subject guide, but not all databases that include music information are included there. Go directly to the right-hand side of the page to the Databases by Name column. These are subscription databases which allow varying numbers of simultaneous users, based on the librarians' judgment as to potential use by the Stetson community. If you get a message that there are too many users, try again later. If you continue to have trouble getting into a database, ask a librarian (either library). They are now color-coded by type: Full-text (red), Reference (aqua), Indexes and Abstracts (blue)
