Brian Smithers has
written dozens of articles on music technology for Electronic Musician, Music
& Computers, and Music Tech magazines and is the author of Mixing in Pro
Tools: Skill Pack, published by Thomson Learning. An accomplished recording
engineer, he was at the vanguard of the movement to use notebook computers for
live remote recording, performance, and production. He founded a Web site that
for several years was the only sustaining Internet resource on laptop-based
music production. As Course Director of Audio Workstations and Advanced Audio
Workstations at Full Sail Real World Education in Winter Park, Florida, Mr.
Smithers coordinates and guides the curriculum of one of the largest digital
audio workstation lab environments in the world.
Mr. Smithers is a cum laude graduate of Ithaca College, where he studied
saxophone with Steven Mauk. An active musician, conductor, and composer, Mr.
Smithers has been performing and teaching music for more than twenty-five
years. His diverse professional and artistic life has seen him performing in
everything from jazz combos to symphony orchestras while composing and
arranging commercial music, including 13 years performing with, writing for,
and conducting the world-famous Walt Disney World Band.
In addition to teaching Music Technology at Stetson University, he also
trains the student recording staff and engineered the School of Music's recent
CD.
