Dr. Andrew Larson (B.M. -
Utah State University, M.M. - Brigham Young University, D.M.A. - University of
Illinois) conducts the Stetson Chorale, the Stetson Men, and teaches choral
conducting, choral arranging, and choral methods. He has studied with
conductors, composers, and scholars such as Will Kesling, Ronald Staheli, Mack
Wilberg, Fred Stoltzfus, and Chester Alwes. He has written for the Choral
Journal, and is in frequent demand as a clinician, lecturer, and
adjudicator in the Southeastern region. Larson will also join the faculty at
the New York State Summer School of the Arts this year.
In Utah, he conducted the
Madrigal Singers at Logan High School, the BYU Women's chorus, and the Wasatch
Chorale. He is a published composer/arranger, his compositions being performed
by the Vancouver Symphony and Chorus, the Chicago Children's Chorus, the Utah
Valley Choral Society, USU Chamber Singers, the Utah Chamber Orchestra on
Temple Square in Salt Lake City, the Stetson Singers, the Stetson Chorale, and
numerous other ensembles.
He most recently studied
voice with Barrington Coleman and Arden Hopkin. Other ?teachers have included
Cynthia Dewey and Marta Johns. He has appeared in solo recital and as a
soloist with choruses, including the University of Illinois Chorale and Musica
Reservata. He has sung the roles of Neville Craven in "The Secret Garden",
Ivan Stepanovich in the Russian Opera "The Music Shop", and various musical
theater roles. He has taught private voice for the USU extension program, at
Parkland College in Illinois, and at Stetson University. Dr. Larson is active
in his church and community, including work with the Boy Scouts of America and
church youth groups in Central Florida. Dr. Larson resides in DeLand with his
wife and three children.
