Lecturer in Music
Dr. Kristie Born is
a collaborative pianist with a broad range of experience in vocal and
instrumental chamber music as well as in opera. She has performed extensively
in this country and abroad. Her travels have included tours of Japan and
Russia with the Iowa Opera and the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, and she has
served as performer and coach for the Operafestival di Roma in Italy and the
University of Miami Salzburg Vocal Program.
As a soloist, Dr. Born has performed with the Hollywood
Philharmonic and the Peabody Wind Ensemble, and has given recitals throughout
the eastern United States and Germany.
Dr. Born received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music
degrees in piano performance from the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, and
she holds a doctorate in chamber music and accompanying from the University of
Miami. Further studies include the Manhattan School of Music and the
Musikhochschule Freiburg.
Dr. Born has taught private piano and class piano at
Seminole Community College and Westminster Conservatory. She has been a
freelance vocal coach since 1989. She is currently the coordinator for
accompanying and functional keyboard at Stetson University, where she also
teaches classes in accompanying and keyboard, and serves as coach for the
Stetson Opera Theater.
