John Wieland

Adjunct Professor of Double Bass

John Wieland has been with Stetson University since 1995.

He has been the principal bassist with the Jacksonville Symphony since 1989, and was named principal bass of the Colorado Music Festival in 1997. He has also held the position of principal bass of the Virginia Symphony, the Oklahoma Symphony, and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería in Mexico City, in addition to being a member of the Colorado Philharmonic (National Repertory Orchestra) and the Aspen Festival Orchestra.

Wieland received his degrees at the New School of Music in Philadelphia. His teachers include H. Stevens Brewster, principal bass with the National Symphony, and Eugene Levinson, principal bass with the New York Philharmonic. Wieland taught at Central State University and Langston University in Oklahoma before joining the Stetson music faculty.
