Manuel de Murga
Associate Professor of Music
Manuel de Murga is Associate Professor of Music. He received both his Master of Arts and Ph. D. degrees in composition from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. He studied at the University of Miami and completed a Bachelor of Music degree at Boston University.
De Murga's music has received international performances at concerts and music festivals in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Europe and Australia by performing ensembles and soloists such as the CORE Ensemble, the Miami String Quartet, Orchestra Miami with conductor Elaine Rinaldi, the Stetson University Chamber Orchestra with conductor Anthony Hose, the University of Miami Clarke Chamber Players, cellist David Bjella, pianists Kristi Born and Michael Rickman, guitarist Stephen Robinson, and flutist Nestor Torres. Among his awards and grants are the 2000 Florida State Music Teachers Association Commission, the 1998 Kubik International Prize in Composition and the 1990 Marimolin Prize. He is published by C. Allen Publications and his compositions can be heard on the Clear Note and GM Recordings labels.
De Murga studied composition with Samuel Adler, David Liptak, Robert Morris, Christopher Rouse, and Joseph Schwantner. He has previously taught at the University of Miami and the New World School for the Arts. He currently teaches composition, orchestration and music theory classes and coordinates the music composition program at Stetson University.
