Stetson University

Health Resources

Your physical health is important to us. Our experience at Stetson University College of Law tells us that medical issues or the need for medical treatment can distract students from their studies. In addition, we have grown increasingly concerned about students inability to obtain basic health care and the increase in medical-related student drop-out rates. Like many other colleges and universities, we moved to mandatory health coverage as a non-academic condition of enrollment at Stetson Law beginning in fall 2009.

Health insurance provides protection for many unexpected illnesses and injuries that can interrupt the student educational experience. In our experience, students without health insurance often defer or neglect their health and health care because of the expense. No student should have to decide between continuing his or her education and paying a medical bill. To view our policy and a set of Frequently Asked Questions about the student insurance requirement, please visit: http://www.firststudent.com/schools/StetsonLawGulfportTampa/enrollment.htm

Note: Getting vaccinated is an easy way to reduce your risk for a number of communicable diseases, some of which have serious or even fatal consequences. Please see the Vaccinations to Consider page for more information.

While Stetson Law's size renders it impractical for us to establish and maintain an onsite health services program, we have posted below local provider information available for students covered under the domestic student injury and sickness insurance plan offered by United Healthcare. Below we have listed several care providers for varoius needs, in close proximity to both the Gulfport and Tampa campuses. All of which are listed as in-network for the United Healthcare student injury and sickness insurance plan.

This information is not an endorsement of a particular physician or health care professional's suitability for your needs. Rather, we took this step because we have learned that with student insurance policies, some providers will require full payment up front and require the individual to seek reimbursement through the plan. This information is provided as a courtesy to students because these providers have advised Stetson Law that they are willing to process claims under the United Healthcare plan, meaning you should only be required to pay your deductible, co-payment, or your portion of the covered expenses when you seek care. We have also identified the local hospitals in our area, but without any confirmation of network status or claims processing information.

Please read your policy details, available online in the plan brochure or in hard copy at the Business Office on what to expect. Questions can be directed to the United Customer Service at 800-767-0700.

For students not covered under Stetson Law's domestic student injury and sickness insurance plan offered by United Healthcare, contact your plan representative directly on how to locate a provider.

Because staff and office practices can change, you are encouraged to confirm, prior to seeking treatment, both that these providers continue to be in-network and also that they are still willing to process claims. To learn more about the United Healthcare plan benefits, to check in-network status, or to search for additional providers under the United Healthcare plan, click here. Remember that the providers listed  do not reflect the full extent of United Healthcare's network of contracted providers. If you do not find the provider you are searching for, you may contact the provider directly to verify participation status with United Healthcare's network, or contact Customer Care at 800-767-0700.
