Information Technology - About VPN

If you have not migrated your office or personal files to SharePoint or OneDrive, you can download our VPN (Virtual Private Network) client to access our on-campus H: and I: drives.  If you would like to set up such a connection, please follow the steps below:

  • On a non-Stetson network, open a browser and connect to https://lawfw.stetson.edu
  • When prompted to log in, enter your Stetson user name and password
  • From the launch page, click Download FortiClient and select the appropriate OS; click Save
  • Open the Downloads folder; launch FortiClientMiniSetup (for Windows PCs, right-click to Run as Administrator and select Yes when prompted)
  • Accept the license agreement and click Next through the installer, without changing options; reboot before continuing
  • After reboot, you should have a green checkmark icon in your notification area (where the volume, network and running application icons reside); click this icon and select Open FortiClient Console
  • Click the button labeled Remote Access, then click the Configure VPN link
  • In the New VPN Connection screen (SSL-VPN), enter Stetson in the Connection Name field; optionally, enter a description in the Description field
    - In the Remote Gateway field, enter lawfw.stetson.edu
    - You can choose to be prompted for login or have the client save the information for future connections
  • After entering the information, click Apply, then Close at the bottom of the New VPN Connection screen
  • In the main FortiClient screen, enter your Stetson username/password and click Connect; you will receive a "FortiClient: Connected to Stetson" notification once connected
  • A FortiGate detection screen may appear; if you choose Accept, the device you are connected to will be stored
  • Close the FortiClient window; you will remain connected
  • For security, when you no longer need to be connected, click the icon and select Disconnect “Stetson”

If you experience any issues using this client, please contact Information Technology for assistance at 727-562-7323 or it@law.stetson.edu.
