Information Technology - NoteCase Pro
What is NoteCase Pro?
NoteCase Pro is software that is designed to easily and efficiently manage your information. You can learn more about it on the NoteCase Pro website.
Once the software has been installed, launch it. When it runs for the first time, it will ask for the license file. Look for the file notecase.nckey in your downloads folder.
Click on Help, and select About to confirm the license has been applied. It should be registered to Stetson University College of Law.
There are several add-ons available for use with NoteCase Pro. You may find descriptions of each of these add-ons below.
NoteCasePro_Guide.pdf and NCP_Guide.ncd - Guides on how to use NoteCase Pro
The only difference between them is the format. The former is in PDF; the latter is in NoteCase Pro's own default format.
The other five files take advantage of the fact that NoteCase Pro has an interface that enables add-ons to be created (using lua scripts) to add extra features. These files are as follows:
HtmlExport.lua - For exporting to HTML
Note that NoteCase Pro can already export to HTML “out of the box.” This script just “polishes” that capability by creating a more semantic and typographically superior output.
HtmlExportFootnotes.lua - To enable easy export of footnotes to HTML
This script depends on using the technique for writing footnotes in NoteCase Pro that is explained in the Guide.
InsertCharacters.lua - For keyboard shortcuts to special characters
This creates keyboard shortcuts to special characters, such as §, ¶, and n- and m-dashes.
LaTeXExport.lua - For exporting to LyX and LaTeX
LyX is a document processor (using the LaTeX language) that enables the user to produce professional-quality PDFs far superior to anything Microsoft Word can produce. (In fact, LaTeX is used by multinational publishers for precisely this purpose.)
NoteCase Pro can already export to LyX and LaTeX “out of the box.” This script adds extra conversion capabilities so as to significantly reduce the need for post-export “tidying.” Note that the ability to convert footnotes in this script depends on using the technique for writing footnotes in NoteCase Pro that is explained in the Guide.
RtfExportFootnotes.lua - For exporting to Microsoft Word (and similar wordprocessors)
Note that NoteCase Pro can already export to Microsoft Word “out of the box.” This script takes care of the exporting of footnotes. It depends on using the technique for writing footnotes in NoteCase Pro that is explained in the Guide.
