Assistant Director for Academic Success & Bar Preparation Services
Staff-Exempt

Primary Purpose:
Participates in the development and implementation of a comprehensive Academic Success Program that partners with students from admission through bar passage. Responsibilities will include academic counseling and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities:
Academic Counseling:
• Advises upper-level students on course selection, study techniques and exam preparation.
• Reviews upper-level student work product to provide analysis and feedback to help students improve their writing skills.

Bar Preparation Counseling:
• Meets with individuals who are preparing for the bar exam and review sample bar exam essays and provide analysis and feedback to help them improve their writing skills.
• Helps individuals develop and execute customized study plans and strategies for passing the bar exam.
• Develops and implement the Bar Preparation Service’s Repeat Taker Program.
• Addresses general student questions about completing the bar application.

Administrative Tasks:
• Assists with Academic Success and Bar Preparation Workshops.
• Assists in the development and maintenance of the Bar Preparation website and blog.
• Assists with New Student Orientation.
• Collaborates with other campus offices to provide a comprehensive and meaningful academic experience for students.

•Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
J.D. degree required. Must be a member in good standing of The Florida Bar. One to three years’ experience in academic support preferred. Ability to build rapport with students in individual counseling setting. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of student records and information. Ability to conduct basic statistical analysis, preferred. A high level of organization, flexibility, judgment and interpersonal skills are required. Strong written and verbal communication skills, and presentation ability, required. Experience with Stetson’s bar preparation program, a plus. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Human Resources Office Assistant

Responsibilities:
• Assists with scanning documents;
• Handles miscellaneous phone calls, emails, and correspondence, mailings;
• Assists with logging applicants in applicant tracking system;
• Assists with set-up of “New Hire” packets;
• Posting, filing, scanning and organization of documents;
• Mail distribution;
• Updates HR Bulletin Boards;
• Assists with articles for the employee newsletter
• Assists with wellness programs.
• Assists in annual Open Enrollment & Health Fair processes.
• Assists in various assignments and projects;

Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; AA/AS degree or above preferred. Prefer at least 1 year of hands on experience in related field or in a related area. Ability to work as a positive team player, with tact and diplomacy, as well as independently. Must maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information. A high level of organization, flexibility and multi-tasking, judgment and interpersonal skills are required. Excellent follow-through is required. Should possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent customer service skills required. Prior experience in Human Resources is a plus. Director of Bar Preparation Services
Staff-Exempt

Full-time; non-faculy opening

Stetson’s Academic Success Program’s vision is that all students will achieve their personal best in law school and pass the bar exam on their first attempt. Its mission is to provide the academic support and guidance necessary to empower students to achieve personal and professional success.

Responsibilities:
• Implementation, evaluation, and enhancement of existing bar-preparation services
o The existing services include: providing a clearinghouse of bar preparation information for Florida and other state bar takers, collaborating with commercial bar preparation companies to generate study plans to assist students with their bar preparation efforts, coordinating an essay writing program to assist with the students’ performance on the Florida bar exam, coordinating a mentor program to provide individual mentors to graduates preparing for the bar, tracking at risk students’ preparation for the bar exam and performance on the exam, and providing resources for repeat bar exam takers
• Instruction in workshops and for-credit course
o Coordination of a bar preparation workshop series
o Coordinate instruction and assessments for Survey of Florida Law, a for-credit bar preparation course Serve as Course Administrator for Multistate Strategies, a distance-learning for-credit bar preparation course
• Individual student counseling and mentoring
o Providing feedback on student work product
o Providing advice on course selection
o Providing general advice about bar application completion
• Assist with supervision of Academic Success Program assistant directors and administrative specialist
Additional responsibilities include
• Assist with general academic success program efforts, such as new student orientation
• Work closely with the Director of Academic Success, the Associate Dean of Academics, and other members of the Stetson faculty and senior staff
• Work with day and evening students on Stetson’s campuses in Gulfport/St. Petersburg and downtown Tampa
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:
Required qualifications include:
• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
• License to practice law; if not a member of the Florida bar, willing to obtain a Florida Bar license within one year of hire
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Preferred qualifications include:
• Experience with bar exam programming and instruction
• Teaching experience — especially bar tested topics or academic support
• Experience with counseling, outcomes assessment, statistics, English as a Second Language, and disability services

Administrative Support I

Works in the Office of Development & Alumni Relations

Primary Purpose:
Provides administrative support for all alumni and development functions for the Office of Development & Alumni Relations. Primary emphasis is on development and alumni support, as well as coordinating critical administrative functions under the direction of the Executive Director of Development and Alumni Relations.

Responsibilities:
• Assists in appointment scheduling for prospect solicitation visits (annual, major, and planned gift solicitations).
• Assists Executive Director in management of the office’s budget, including but not limited to maintaining monthly ledger sheets and providing up to date budget information to the Interim Director and AVP for planning purposes.
• Primary contact for processing all billing/invoicing for the department.
• Assists Executive Director by serving as the primary coordinator of the department calendar.
• Provides primary administrative support for all boards associated directly with Development and Alumni Relations
• Assists in the preparation of all correspondence.
• Prepares travel arrangements and travel reimbursement forms.
• Organizes and maintains department files, Memorandums of Agreement and Administrative Provisions for endowed and restricted scholarships, Awards, and vendor files.
• Assists when needed with basic Banner functions, including contact reports, addresses, phone numbers, and employment information.
• Serves as the primary contact within Development and Alumni Relations, including but not limited to answering phones, maintaining designated files and all mail processes including general delivery.
• Serves as primary person responsible for maintaining the department’s computer shared drive.
• Orders office supplies including stationery products and maintains inventory for the department.
• Proofreads publications as requested.
• Distributes necessary materials to appropriate offices for all newly created endowments, awards, and scholarships.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Associates’ degree strongly preferred but equivalent combination of training, education and experience (especially in higher education) may substitute. 3-5 years of administrative experience required. Ability to work as a team, as well as independently. Should possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and sense of personal professional responsibility. Must maintain a high level of organization. High degree of flexibility. Multi-tasking, judgment, interpersonal skills and follow-through are required. Intermediate level in MS Excel & Word, MS Outlook required. Experience in mail merges required. Knowledge of MS Access & PowerPoint preferred. Banner, a plus.

Professor of Legal Skills and Trial Advocacy
Faculty

Stetson University College of Law seeks an entry level or lateral hire to lead Stetson’s award winning trial advocacy program. The successful candidate is expected to hold a full-time programmatic tenured/tenure-track faculty position.

The primary duty of this individual is to serve as the coordinator to the trial team competition program, which includes training trial team members, serving as the primary coach for at least one team per semester, recruiting and training a network of advocacy skills trainers to coach additional teams throughout the year, and providing oversight of all trial team competitions. This oversight includes creating and following a budget for the program, assuring compliance with all applicable rules and regulations in all trial competitions, organizing and supervising trial team tryouts, and selecting students to participate on competition teams. The individual will coordinate trial team activities with the Director of the Center for Excellence in Advocacy and the advisors of the Alternative Dispute Resolution and Moot Court Boards.

Additionally, the individual will teach assigned classes, which may include classes in Stetson’s skills curriculum including L.L.M. online classes, trial advocacy, and upper-level skills courses.

The individual will also assist the Director for the Center in Excellence in Advocacy in other projects consistent with the primary duties of coordinating the trial team activities. Such projects may include coordinating or assisting in competitions sponsored by Stetson University College of Law or presentations on Stetson’s programs. The individual may also be asked to assist in recruitment of J.D. students to the law school.

This position requires the individual to hold a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school, and to be licensed and in good standing to practice law in at least one state or the District of Columbia. Actual trial experience is necessary for this position. There is an additional preference for applicants having experience in coaching competition teams or teaching in an established trial advocacy program.

Faculty on the Programmatic Tenure track, or with Programmatic Tenure, attend faculty meetings, serve on and/or chair various faculty governance committees, vote on matters of policy with all other tenure-track or tenured faculty, and are expected to produce legal scholarship consistent with programmatic tenure status that recognizes skills course teaching requirements.

Professor of Legal Skills and Director, Veterans Advocacy Clinic

Stetson University College of Law seeks an entry level or lateral hire to serve as the Director of Stetson’s Veterans Advocacy Clinic. The candidate must be an attorney licensed in Florida as well as accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs and admitted to the bars of the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Such accreditation and admissions may be obtained after a person is hired. Experience with veterans benefit issues, military service, and clinical or other teaching experience will be highly valued. As currently contemplated, the position will be on the programmatic tenure track with academic rank commensurate with experience.

The Veterans Advocacy Clinic provides representation to veterans appealing decisions of the Department of Veterans Affairs concerning benefits, including but not limited to disability compensation. As part of Stetson’s Veterans Law Institute, the clinic provides outreach to the bar and the veteran community in addition to direct legal representation. Stetson’s Veterans Law Institute also conducts a pro bono initiative, promotes policy and scholarship advances on military and veterans issues, and provides services to student veterans.

The Director of the Veterans Advocacy Clinic will be responsible for directing all aspects of the legal work of the clinic, including the assumption of professional responsibility for all cases. He or she will also be responsible for the field supervision of students, teaching the classroom seminar, and promoting the clinic so as to maintain a flow of cases appropriate for student representation. As a key member of the Institute’s leadership, the Professor of Legal Skills will work with the Director of the Institute and the Director of Clinical Education to develop new initiatives, establish policies and procedures for the clinic, and participate in other work of the Institute.

After the first year, the professor will be expected to teach one course per year, open to any student enrolled in Stetson University College of Law.
