Nina Hayden is an alumna of Stetson University College of Law, where she earned a J.D. in 2003, and an LL.M. in International Law, with distinction, in 2012. Prior to Stetson, she graduated from Washington Adventist University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1998. Professor Hayden returned to the Stetson community as a professor and director of Academic Success and Bar Preparation Services in 2017. She teaches Multi-State Strategies and directs the Academic Success and Bar Preparation Services department, which assists students in their academic achievement and supports alumni during their bar preparation period.
Prior to joining Stetson, Professor Hayden taught Introduction to the Criminal Justice System and First Amendment and the Supreme Court at the University of Tampa. She worked for eight years at the Office of the Public Defender, Sixth Judicial Circuit, and practiced criminal defense as a sole practitioner. Her area of expertise includes criminal litigation with a specialty in juvenile delinquency and direct-file cases.
Professor Hayden’s involvement in the community includes many hours of work with students through the Lawyers for Literacy program, the Great American Teach-In, and mentoring through the Doorways program. She has sat on many boards throughout the community including the Police Athletic League in Lealman, PACE Center for Girls, HEADSTART, and Your Place, which is a youth development center. In 2008, Professor Hayden ran for office and was elected to the Pinellas County School Board, where she served for two years.
