Brooke J. Bowman

Biography

Professor Brooke J. Bowman teaches Research and Writing I and II. She is also the coordinator of the Scholarly Writing Series program.

Professor Brooke J. Bowman primarily teaches Research and Writing I and II, but she has also co-taught the Pre-1L Perspectives (P1P) Workshop (for admitted students) with Professor Adams and Elder Law Seminar with Professor Morgan. She is also the coordinator of the Scholarly Writing Series program.

 

Professor Bowman is the Director, Moot Court Board, and she has coached or co-coached many of Stetson's moot court teams that have won state, regional, national, and international competitions, as well as best brief and best advocate awards. She serves as a volunteer brief evaluator for a number of national moot court competitions.

 

Since the fall of 2013, she has been a member of the ABA Competition Committee, specifically, a member of the National Appellate Advocacy Competition (NAAC) subcommittee, and she has chaired the NAAC subcommittee in 2015–2016, 2017–2018, and 2020–2021. As a member of the NAAC subcommittee, she is one of four professors who host 6 regionals and a nationals every year.  Professor Bowman has also hosted other moot court competitions on behalf of not only Stetson, but the NYC Bar Association and the Tax Section of The Florida Bar. She has also hosted a variety of dispute resolution competitions on behalf of the ABA.

Currently, Professor Bowman serves as the Managing Editor of Perspectives: Teaching Legal Research and Writing. She co-edited The Scribes Manual for Law Review Editors, with previous Stetson Dean, Darby Dickerson, published by Carolina Academic Press.  In addition to being a co-editor, she authored one of the chapters, “The Editorial Adventure.” In conjunction with the book, Dean Dickerson and Professor Bowman have hosted a monthly webinar series and a national conference to benefit editors of student-edited law reviews and journals and their faculty advisors. 

Professor Bowman was recently elected to the Board of Directors of Scribes: The American Society of Legal Writers. For the past four years, she has served as the Chair of Scribes’s Law Review Award Committee. And for fifteen years before that, she was a member of the Scribes’s Best Brief Award Committee. She has served as a member of the Board of Editorial Advisers of Bryan A. Garner’s The Redbook: A Manual on Legal Style, for the second, third, and fourth editions. And she is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Pinellas County Law Libraries and the Treasurer and swim meet director for St. Pete Masters.
