Taking RSVPs: Social Justice Advocacy Lecture Series


This Thursday, October 10th at 12 noon, Ahmad Abuznaid, Legal and Policy Director of the Dream Defenders will be joining us on campus to talk about the work that his organization is doing to organize students around issues related to decriminalization of Black and Brown youth,  voting rights, and Stand Your Ground Laws. The Dream Defenders are the group of young people who took over the floor of the Florida State Legislature to protest Stand Your Ground laws in Florida after the verdict in the George Zimmerman (Trayvon Martin) case was rendered.  Attorney Abuznaid will discuss how the Dream Defenders was established and organized and how he has been using his law degree to in the public interest to advocate outside of the courtroom for racial justice and social change.
