INTERESTED IN JUVENILE JUSTICE? Join us on Saturday, March 18th, 2017 at 5:00 pm in Classroom F, Stetson Law Gulfport Campus for the screening and discussion of They Call Us Monsters (2016)
According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Florida is one of the 13 states that allow prosecutors to decide which children are sent to adult court, and one of only 3 states that never allow a judge to review the decision?
They Call Us Monsters is an eye-opening documentary which introduces us to several young boys who are experiencing the overwhelming reality of what the unjust practice of trying, sentencing, and incarcerating youth under 18 in the adult criminal justice system is really like, right before our eyes. The stark reality is that these boys won’t be coming home any time soon. They are LA County’s high-risk juvenile offenders, being tried as adults for violent crimes and facing decades, if not hundreds of years in adult prison.
This event is sponsored by: Southern Poverty Law Center, Stetson Law Social Justice Advocacy Program, the Juvenile Justice Initiative, and the Dream Defenders. The screen and discussion will be held on Saturday, March 18th, 2017 at 5:00 pm in Classroom F, Stetson Law Gulfport Campus. Light snacks and refreshments will be served. Participants will be able to ask questions, learn about reform efforts, and hear from those working to keep children out of adult jail. Please join us!
