Innocence Initiative Guest Speaker – Innocence Initiative – Wednesday, March 25th from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.- Mann Lounge

Join the Innocence Initiative on Wednesday, March 25th from 5pm – 7pm in the Mann Lounge for an evening with an Innocence Initiative, who will  speak on his wrongful conviction and journey toward exoneration.   Mr. Thompson was incarcerated for 18 years, 14 of those on death row in solitary confinement for a murder and robbery he did not commit. Dinner will be served. Please RSVP to tfanelli@law.stetson.edu

Mr. Thompson was awarded a 14 million dollar settlement for prosecutorial misconduct in his case, which was overturned by a divided US Supreme Court decision, Connick v. Thompson, 131 S. Ct. 1350 (2011).  Despite this disappointing ruling, Mr. Thompson has devoted his time and attention to helping other wrongfully convicted men by establishing Resurrection After Exoneration, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping former prisoners re-enter society.   He has spent the last four years on a national speaking tour focused on prosecutorial misconduct and the lack of accountability for such misconduct. He lives in New Orleans with his wife Laverne, and often jokes that the prosecution may rest, but he won’t until his work is no longer needed.
