Congratulations to our Moot Court teams!

Please join me in congratulating the members of our National moot court team—Brittnie Burns, Ali Preston, and Kelley Thompson—and the members of our Veterans moot court team—John Arnett and Thomas Banks—on their performances this weekend.

Brittnie, Ali, and Kelley competed in the 68th Annual National Moot Court Competition, Region 5, in Atlanta this weekend.  Our region (consisting of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina) is one of the most challenging regionals in the nation. Fractions of points separated teams on their brief scores and their oral argument scores.  (This from the person who was running the scoring room.)  Yet, one of our oralist—Ali—earned a perfect score from one judge. The team were semifinalists.

John and Thomas competed at the National Veterans Law Moot Court Competition, in Washington, D.C.  The students argue in front of subject matter experts and judges of the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans, including Stetson’s very own Judge Michael Allen.  Continuing the long line of awards won at this competition, John won the Best Oralist award, after earning the highest scores in the two preliminary rounds.  This is the fifth time that a Stetson oralist has won the award, in the eight years that this competition has occurred.

And a special thanks to Professor Virelli, Professor Simcox, and Diana Evans, Esq. Professor Virelli coached the National team and Professor Simcox and Diana coached the Veterans team.  Our coaches put in many hours working with our teams—thank you!

Congratulations!
Professor Bowman
