What is Room Change Period? The Room Change Period offers residents the chance to request moving into a different space from where they currently are assigned. Room change allows students to request living with new friends they have made or old friends that are attending Stetson University. The Department of Residential Life & Fraternity & Sorority Affairs will try to honor all requests, but requests are subject to space availability.
What is Room Change Period? These dates are to be determined for Fall 2008.
Note: The Department of Residential Life & Fraternity & Sorority Affairs reserves the right when they will offer students with vacancies the opportunity to buy out the vacancy. Until that offer is made, all vacancies are open for students to view and select.
Where are the vacancies located? An updated list of vacancies will be posted (at a date to be determined) outside the Department of Residential Life & Fraternity & Sorority Affairs by the close of business, 4:30pm (2nd Floor CUB). These will be spots that have not been filled with a pull in.
What should I do to prepare to request a room change? Students can come and review the list and seek out any vacancies to formally meet any future perspective roommate. (All students are encouraged to meet the new perspective roommate before applying for the vacancy.) Students are also encouraged to inform their current roommate that they will be requesting to move out of the room.
What about doing a room switch with another student (a one for one switch)? Students who want to switch spaces with another student (a one for one switch) have to come to the Department of Residential Life & Fraternity & Sorority Affairs to have the switch approved.
If I find a space to change to, how do I apply for the room change? Stop by the Department of Residential Life & Fraternity & Sorority Affairs, 2nd floor CUB to pick up a Room Change Request form. Complete the form, get the appropriate signatures and bring it to the Department of Residential Life & Fraternity & Sorority Affairs on your scheduled room change date.
What happens if I can not make the scheduled date and time to request a room change? Students who have other commitments during the dates and times when they are suppose to bring in the paperwork for a room change should send a “proxy”. A proxy is a friend who can bring the completed paperwork & the ID card in for another student. The request will be reviewed and a representative from the Department of Residential Life & Fraternity & Sorority Affairs will contact you by phone. They will use the phone number provided on the Room Change form so make sure it is a number you can be reached at. A proxy can not sign out keys for another student.
How will I know if the room change has been approved?
A representative from the Department of Residential Life & Fraternity & Sorority Affairs will contact you by phone. They will use the phone number provided on the Room Change form so make sure it is a number you can be reached at.
Students who are approved to change rooms will be given 48 business hours to complete the following items:
1. Move all personal items from the old room to the new room. 2. Clean your half of the old room. 3. Have your old room inspected with a staff member. 4. Turn in the keys to the old room to the staff member (Failure to return the keys to the old room will result in a lock change charge of $75.00 to the student.) 5. Have the new room inspected with a staff member.
What happens if the request is denied? If your request is denied, a representative from the Department of Residential Life & Fraternity & Sorority Affairs will instruct you on the reasoning and what your options will be.
Are there policies I need to be aware of before changing rooms? 1. Any student found intimidating another student away from moving into a vacancy in their room will have disciplinary action taken against them. Please welcome all new perspective roommates. 2. Students may move only once during Room Change Period. 3. All steps to complete a room change must be completed within 48 business hours. 4. Students’ accounts will be adjusted to reflect any changes in room fees resulting from a room change. 5. All room change requests must be completed and turned in to the Department of Residential Life & Fraternity & Sorority Affairs. 6. Make sure you read all of the instructions on the Room Change Request Form.
Roommate Conflicts In the event of a roommate conflict, every attempt will be made to work with the residents involved to resolve the conflict. Should you be experiencing difficulty with your roommate, take the initial step of sitting down and reasonably discussing your concerns together to attempt to resolve differences. Should you find further assistance is needed, your Resident Assistant/Greek House Manager/Head Resident should be contacted to serve as a mediator for you.
If a conference with your Resident Assistant /Greek House Manager/Head Resident be unsuccessful, consult with your Residence Hall Director. She/He will meet with you and your roommate to discuss the concerns at issue. In an effort to assist the staff in resolving the conflict, students must realize their responsibility for compromising and reasonably negotiating the conflict which exists. In the event a Residence Hall Director conference is unsuccessful, a conference with the Assistant Director is required. Contact the Department of Residential Life & Fraternity & Sorority Affairs to schedule an appointment with the appropriate Assistant Director for you and your roommate together.
No student will be permitted to make a change in his/her room assignment without written approval from the Department of Residential Life & Fraternity & Sorority Affairs.
