Violations of the Honor System harm the entire
University community by eroding standards for academic integrity and rigor.
Faculty are expected to use the Honor System in
dealing with apparent breaches of academic integrity in their classes. Some
may prefer to handle matters (especially minor matters) internally.
Unfortunately, however, the resulting lack of central reporting would permit a
student to cheat in several courses without any repercussions for multiple
offenses.
Students are strongly encouraged, though not
required, to report any violations of which they are aware.
An apparent Honor System violation may be reported
through any of three channels:
(1) to the Council (honorsystem@stetson.edu)
(2) to the Council faculty advisor, Dr. John Rasp (822-7444; jrasp@stetson.edu)
(3) or to any member of the Council.
Reports of violations should include the name(s)
of the student(s) involved, the course in which the alleged offense occurred,
and a brief description of that offense. (“John Doe cheated on an exam in
BW201 - Underwater Basket Weaving.”)
