FOCUS Orientation
F.O.C.U.S. stands for "Friends On Campus Uniting Students" and is a five-day comprehensive orientation program designed to help new students have a successful transition to the University! Each incoming student will be placed into a “FOCUS Group” of about 30 students. FOCUS Groups are lead by two outstanding upper-class students who have been at the University for at least a year and have a strong desire and passion to show new students the ropes. During the 5-days of Orientation students will take care of all of their needs; such as meeting with their Academic Advisor, getting their Student ID, Parking Decal, setting up their e-mail and internet, and maybe even purchasing their books for class; all while meeting new people, learning their way around campus and having fun!
In addition to the orientation at the beginning of the semester, FOCUS also encompasses an extended orientation program in which the FOCUS groups get back together throughout the first semester. Events have included Stetson Athletic games, beach trips, attending lectures, grabbing lunch in the Commons, and much more!
For an example of what goes on during FOCUS for students and parents, here is a tentative schedule for FOCUS 2009. Sessions, times, and locations are subject to change without notice. Please use this schedule as a general reference as the final schedule will be handed out at check-in on Saturday, August 15th beginning at 8:00am at the Center for First Year Studies. Please be sure to check-in by 1:30pm.
Our FOCUS staff is working hard to prepare for your arrival and we look forward to meeting you!
