Supportive Community
The First Year at Stetson
emphasizes shared experiences and unity. Students take many of the same
courses and some of those courses will be linked together. In addition,
students share a common advising process and reside in common residence halls
that coincide with many of their common courses.
Emphasis is placed on students
identifying themselves as First Years instead of identifying themselves solely
by majors, social organizations, or group affiliations. Students come into the
University with the understanding that as a First Year student, they are a
valued part of the Stetson community and that from the beginning the
University will expect and cherish their contributions to the campus
community.
First Years are supported through:
-
Advising and Advisee/Adviser
relationship
-
Living-Learning Communities
-
Linked and Blocked Courses
For more detail on how this might
work, please see The Advising Handbook
