Christen Civiletto Carey, Esq.

Christen Civiletto Carey brings a wealth of expertise and a variety of experiences to her career as a national author and speaker. In her nearly 14 years of private legal practice, she specialized in general commercial litigation, with an emphasis on intellectual property and commercial arbitration matters. She has first-chair trial experience in all phases of litigation and arbitration matters, on both the state- and federal-court level. A certified arbitrator and mediator, Christen co-founded a Christian arbitration and mediation company in Western New York. She currently serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Buffalo School of Law.

Christen's first book, Full Disclosure: The New Lawyer's Must-Read Career Guide, was published by American Lawyer Media in 2001. Full Disclosure is a practical mentoring guide geared towards first- through fourth-year lawyers and those about to enter the practice of law. Christen also co-authored The Practice Of Law School: Getting In And Making The Most Of Your Legal Education, with longtime friend Professor Kristen David Adams, Professor of Law at Stetson University College of Law. The Practice Of Law School challenges law students and prospective law students to personalize their legal education and to make it relevant to their own careers as attorneys.

Christen has written articles for national print and online publications, including The National Law Journal, NYLawyer.com, and Law.com, and she has contributed to web sites for the legal community such as Vault.com. She continues to write about issues that law students and lawyers face in their daily professional lives. Additionally, Christen travels the country lecturing on topics related to a lawyer's professional development and on additional topics of particular interest to law students.

A summa cum laude graduate of The University at Buffalo, Christen earned a joint bachelor's degree in Political Science and Communication. She earned her Doctor of Jurisprudence at Vanderbilt University Law School, where she served as Managing Associate Justice of the Moot Court Board.
