 Types of Aid

Financial aid is awarded in a variety of forms, from grants and scholarships, which do not need to be repaid, to loans that offer a variety of repayment options. The Office of Financial Aid will create a package to assist your specific financial needs. To qualify for any need-based aid, you must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after January 1. You must complete this form each year.

Scholarships
Stetson University offers several types of scholarships, including academic, music, and athletic scholarships. Academic scholarships range in amount from $1,000 annually to full tuition, room, meals, fees, and books.

Grants
Grants are provided as "free money" to help defray educational costs. Grants are awarded by Stetson University, the federal government, and the Florida state government.

Loans
Student loans are a cost-effective way to help finance a college education by borrowing funds at a low interest rate. Several loan programs are available for students and parents who display financial need, including the Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan and the Federal Perkins Loan. Other loans, such as the Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) and the Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, are available to all students regardless of need. Several additional private educational loan programs exist to assist credit-worthy individuals.

Payment plans
The Florida Prepaid College Plan allows parents to pay for their children's college education before their children enroll. If you participate in this program, Stetson University's Office of Student Accounts can bill the plan on your behalf. You must provide Stetson's Office of Student Accounts with a copy of your Florida Prepaid Card that you will receive at the end of each April. Stetson will normally bill for 15 hours per semester for each semester, up to a maximum of 120 hours. The rate at which we bill per credit hour is provided to us by the underwriters of the Florida Prepaid College Program each academic year and is based on an average rate of Florida public universities.

Other Aid Information
