Grants
do not need to be repaid; however, unlike some scholarships, grants are
primarily awarded to students and families who display exceptional financial
need. Below are federal and state grant programs in which Stetson
participates. To qualify for most of these grants, you must complete the FAFSA.
The answers you provide on the FAFSA will determine your eligibility for
financial aid. Please note an exeception: The Florida Resident Access Grant
does not require the filing of the FAFSA and is not based on need.
Non-Need Based Grants:
Florida Resident Access
Grant (FRAG)
This
non-need-based grant is available to Florida residents who are enrolled full
time as undergraduate students at an eligible private institution such as
Stetson University. Award amounts are specified in the General Appropriations
Act each year. Applications for the grant are available at the Stetson
University Office of Financial Aid. The 2007-2008 award amount is estimated to
be $3000 for the year.
Need Based Grants:
Florida Student Assistance
and Grant (FSAG)
This
grant is need-based, eligibility is determined by the FAFSA results. FSAG
funds are distributed by Stetson University on an availability basis.
Therefore it is important to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible after
January 1.
Federal Pell Grant
The
Pell Grant is distributed to students on the basis of financial need and is
generally awarded to undergraduate students who have not already earned a
bachelor's degree. Individual awards will depend on your expected family
contribution, cost of attendance, and enrollment status. Students enrolled
less than half time are still eligible for the Pell Grant, but they will
receive less than full-time students.
Federal
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
The
SEOG is awarded to exceptionally financially needy students, and priority is
given to students who receive Federal Pell grants. Funds are distributed
through Stetson University, so the amount of aid that students receive is
based on the availability of funds at Stetson. Award amounts range between
$100 and $4,000 per year.
