Determining Financial Need
Financial
need is the difference between the estimated cost of attending a college or
university and the amount you are expected to pay towards your college
education. The Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is determined based on the
information you provide on the FAFSA. This amount may be more or less than
your actual out-of-pocket contribution toward your education.
Before
beginning your FAFSA, you should register
for a PIN (Personal Identification
Number). This PIN will serve as your electronic signature on the FAFSA. This
will allow the FAFSA process to be completely paperless. Students who do not
utilize a PIN will have to print a signature page and mail it to the federal
processor. This may cause a delay of the receipt of your FAFSA results.
PLEASE NOTE: Stetson
University must be listed on the FAFSA in order for our office to receive the
results. Our Title IV school code is 001531. You should print the application
data for your records. The federal processor will notify you that your FAFSA
has been processed. Your processed FAFSA is your Student Aid Report (SAR). If
you need to make corrections, resubmit them at the FAFSA
website.
Your cost of attendance (COA) includes the
actual tuition charge plus an allowance for housing, meals, books,
transportation and miscellaneous personal expenses.
The tuition per credit hour charge for the
2007-2008 academic year for the DeLand campus is as follows: $575 per credit
hour for the MBA program and Masters in Counseling, Education, Education
Leadership, or teacher certification program.
The tuition charge for the 2007-2008
academic year for the Celebration campus is as follows: $675 per credit hours
for the MBA program, and $675 per credit hour for the Masters in Counseling,
Education, Education Leadership, or teacher certification program.
Types
of Assistance Available
Accepted students may be
eligible for federal and or private loans. Grant funds are not available for
graduate or post-baccalaureate students.
Federal
Loans
Subsidized Stafford Loan:
$8,500 maximum per academic year for graduate students, not to exceed the cost
of attendance. The loan maximum for certificate or second bachelor degree
students is the same as the undergraduate loan levels. The level is determined
by the number of credit hours the student has earned towards their degree or
certificate. Subsidized Stafford Loans are based on financial need as
determined by the FASFA. The federal government pays the interest on the
subsidized Stafford Loan as long as the student is enrolled at least half
time. Half-time enrollment is 5 credit hours per semester for graduate
students, and 6 credit hours per semester for certificate or second bachelor
degree students.
Unsubsidized Stafford Loan: $8,500 maximum
per academic year for graduate students, not to exceed the cost of attendance.
The loan maximum for certificate or second bachelor degree students is the
same as the undergraduate loan levels. The level is determined by the number
of credit hours the student has earned toward their degree or certificate.
Students who do not show need or are not eligible for the entire amount of
their loan to be subsidized are awarded an unsubsidized Stafford Loan. The
federal government does not pay the interest on this loan. The student has the
option to defer the interest payments until no longer enrolled at least half
time. Note: A student can only receive the total of $8,500 per academic year
of subsidized and base unsubsidized Stafford Loans.
Additional Unsubsidized Stafford
Loan: $10,000 maximum per academic year for a graduate student, not to exceed
cost of attendance. The loan maximum for independent certificate or second
bachelor degree students is the same as the undergraduate loan levels.
Although the loan is not based on need, the FAFSA must be completed and
processed before this loan may be awarded. The student is responsible for
paying the interest on this loan. Note: The combination of subsidized and
unsubsidized loan amount cannot exceed the cost of attendance.
Alternative
Loans
Alternative educational
loans are available to enrolled credit-worthy students regardless of financial
need; completion of the FAFSA is not required. In some cases a credit-worthy
co-signer may be required. These loans may also be used for past due balances
or other educational expenses, such as a computer. The interest rates for
these loans are generally higher than the Stafford Loan.
In-Service Discounts
Students enrolled in a
graduate/certificate program offered by the College of Arts and Sciences who
are employed full-time by a non-profit agency may qualify for a tuition
reduction. A request for the discount must be submitted/approved every
semester by the Graduate Studies Office.ᅠ This form must be submitted within
30 days of the start of the term as published in the Bulletin. Please note:
the value of the in-service discount will be used as a resource to meet need
and may reduce your eligibility for other types of financial aid. For more
information, please contact the Arts and Science Graduate Studies Office at
386-822-7075.
