Chad Nikola Coordinator of Recreation and Wellness Services BBA '07, MBA ‘08
Explain your job The main purpose of my job is to organize, maintain and enhance the Hollis Center and its programs and work with the student staff that makes it possible. The Hollis Center offers a wide variety of recreation and wellness programs that make working here amazing! In my job, I:
- Organize fitness and wellness activities including group fitness classes and fitness incentive programs;
- Lead and develop an amazing group of student staff that makes the Hollis Center a great facility;
- Build management internship programs for academic credit. These programs give students an opportunity to work on special projects, strategic planning, employee management and leadership training; and
- Empower student staff to take leadership roles and drive change throughout the Hollis Center's programs.
Why work at Stetson? Stetson is an amazing place to gain valuable work experience. It provides an enriching atmosphere in which grow and learn and allows for friendships to be developed. There is a great sense of accomplishment whenever a project is completed because you can see the impact it has on the community and those around you. Stetson is the place to work if you want to drive change with students who are equally motivated to make a difference.
Tell us about yourself I came to Stetson in 2003 as a Business Management major. I took a work-study job in the Hollis Center as a lifeguard and had a wonderful first year at Stetson. I enjoyed the atmosphere so much, that in my sophomore year, I decided to become a student manager. I was able to work in many areas of the building and gain valuable work experience while I earned my degree.
I also participated in Greek life and studied abroad in Innsbruck, Austria. The experiences gained from these two activities are some of my fondest memories. After graduation I was fortunate to find a job opening in the Hollis Center, where I could work while I earned my MBA, a goal of mine since freshman year. In my spare time I like to hang out with friends, play guitar, work out and travel.
Advice for prospective students? The college experience is unique to every student. It is what you make it, no matter where you go or what you study. Don't be afraid to trust yourself; you know who you are and what you want. You are in complete control to create the best college experience. Just trust in yourself.
