Lynn Stadelman Associate Director of Health Education and Wellness Initiatives
Your background? I came to Stetson straight from grad school at the University of Florida. I did graduate work in mental health counseling, and did my undergraduate studies in psychology at Lynchburg College. I’ll celebrate my two-year anniversary at Stetson on Sept. 1.
What exactly do you do? I do health and wellness programs directed toward undergrads, including:
- advising a peer education group, which we call the Health Hut
- Reality Campaign, which presents information about smoking, alcohol, drugs and other issues on posters around campus that feature students who’ve been nominated as cool and responsible by their peers
- BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening In College Students), a counseling intervention program for students having problems with alcohol
- Kicking Butts, which is about smoking cessation
- the 21st birthday project, which gives information about alcohol to students on their 21st birthday
- and, in addition to all that, I also supervise Greek Affairs.
Favorite part of the job? The students! I love being around them, helping with their development, and being around their positive energy. I love advising the Wellness interns. They have so much potential, and they really believe in health and wellness. The majority of them are Integrative Health Science majors, but we’ve got a few Psychology majors and a Religious Studies major, too.
Advice for prospective students? Get to know as many people as you can. Experience new things! Try stuff out. See what fits.
