Welcome word by Program Director
The Finance Department houses three programs: the Finance Major, the Business Economics major, and the Finance minor. The Finance Department also houses the Roland George Investments Program, a student-managed portfolio worth $3.5 million, as well as the Sarah George Investments Institute. The George Investments Institute funds research and creative activity related to investment decision-making.
Professor K. C. Ma returned in 2001 to be the Roland George Chair of Applied Investments. In addition, he is now the Director of the Sarah George Investments Institute. Dr. Ma is the longest-serving George Professor and is as knowledgeable about the program as anyone. As the results from our student competitions and our placement results show, he is a well-respected mentor who really cares about the personal growth and development of students and who really prepares them for what lies ahead. He has a vast network of professional as well as academic contacts that he has always employed to the advantage of students and faculty in the Finance Department and George Program, and the program will continue to evolve and improve under his leadership.
Dr. Ma completed his Ph.D. in Finance in 1983 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He obtained his rank as a Certified Financial Analyst in 1988. Dr. Ma has an extensive background in academics as well as professional background in financial and quantitative research, portfolio management, investment officer, and hedge fund management. He has an equally impressive list of publications within the fields of economics, investing, finance and accounting, futures markets and portfolio management to name just a few. In 1995, Dr. Ma founded KCM Asset Management Group, Inc. He has been Director of Quantitative Research for Ned Davis Research, Inc., and a hedge fund manager for George Weiss Associates, Inc.
