Dr. Michael Bitter

Associate Professor ofAccounting

Michael Bitter is a Stetson alumnus, having graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1987. Bitter received a Master of Accountancy from the University of Florida and a Doctor of Philosophy in Accountancy from the University of Mississippi. Prior to beginning his academic career, Bitter was an auditor with the international public accounting firm of Ernst and Young, specializing in the healthcare industry.

Dr. Bitter teaches auditing, accounting theory, and financial accounting/reporting at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Bitter is also an active researcher with ten journal articles, two published book reviews, a book chapter, and twenty-seven presentations at academic meetings. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the American Accounting Association, and Beta Gamma Sigma. He serves as Stetson's Faculty Athletics Representative and is heavily involved in service activities within the University, in the accounting profession, and in the community. Bitter was the School of Business Administration's Professor of the Year in 2001 and is also a past recipient of the School's service award (2000, 2002, 2003, and 2004) and research award (1999) and the JD/MBA Golden Apple Award for teaching (2003).
