Faculty

Students at Stetson know their teachers and have easy access to their faculty advisers. The Department of Psychology emphasizes the importance of advising in selecting courses, designing research projects, and determining career goals. We have seven full-time faculty members. Toni Blum, Ph.D., Ohio State University, is the Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. She teaches Cognitive Psychology, Research Methods, and Human Sexuality. In addition, she teaches two Honors Program courses, Foundations of Understanding and Knowledge II, and Self and Society. She does research on metacognition, memory, and decision-making. tblum@stetson.edu

 

Dwaine Cochran, Ph.D., University of Georgia, teaches Introductory Psychology, Behavioral Statistics, Research Methods, Senior Research, and Psychological Testing. Health psychology and Industrial psychology are among his research interests. dcochran@stetson.edu

 

 

Dan Hale, Ph.D., University of Massachusetts at Amherst, teaches Introductory Psychology, Health Psychology, Clinical and Counseling Psychology, and Abnormal Psychology. He does research on health attitudes and medical-religious partnerships in health education. He is the director of the Community Health Initiative. dhale@stetson.edu

 

Richard Kindred, Ph.D., Brandeis University, is the Chair of the Psychology Department. He supervises internships and teaches Personality, Group Dynamics, Ethical and Professional Issues in Psychology, and Human Sexuality. He does research on the role of language in intimate communication. rkindred@stetson.edu

 

Camille King, Ph.D., University of Virginia, teaches Introductory Psychology, Biological Psychology, Great Experiments in Psychology, Drugs & Behavior, and Special Topics in Psychology. She does research on the neurological basis of taste sensations. In addition, she directs the Betty Batson Bell Brain and Learning Lecture Series. cking@stetson.edu

 

Richard Medlin, Ph.D., University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, teaches Introductory Psychology, Child Psychology, Childhood Behavior Disorders, and Senior Research. He does research on cognitive, social, and moral development in home schooled children. rmedlin@stetson.edu

 

Carrie Nance, Ph.D., Florida State University, teaches Introductory Psychology, Personality, and Social Psychology. She does research in social cognition, on the detection of deception. cnance@stetson.edu

 

We also have part-time (adjunct) faculty members able to bring the benefits of their experience in private practice and/or research into the classroom.

These professionals include Ms. Norma Blackman, LMHC, with an M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Nova Southeastern University,  Dr. Anthony Blum, with a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Ohio State University;  Ms. Amy Bradshaw, with an M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University,  Dr. Ivan Fleishman, with a Psy.D. in clinical psychology from Hahnemann University; Dr. Jay Ludvigh, with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Michigan State University, Dr. Anita Sanz, with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Dr. Don Sanz, with a Ph.D. in Counseling and Human Systems from Florida State University, Dr. Karen Weiss, with a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from the University of Miami, and Ms. Diane Zeidwig, LMFT, with an M.Ed. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Stetson University.
