The Society of Physics Students and Sigma Pi Sigma

The Society of Physics Students is an organization open to all students (majors and non-majors alike) interested in the field of Physics. The SPS is a national organization and is a part of the American Institute of Physics. The local chapter of the SPS, in conjunction with the Physics Department, sponsors a variety of events, including pizza lunches, an annual departmental T-Shirt contest, social gatherings like movie nights, guest lecturers, and it's formal meeting held annually in April. Specifics about upcoming events are posted around the corridors of the Department. All students interested in SPS activities are invited to participate! At Stetson,Dr.Kevin Riggsis the faculty sponsor of this organization.

SigmaPi Sigmais an honor society under the Society of Physics Students umbrella. It recognizes the academic accomplishments of all students (majors and non-majors) who excel in their study of Physics. Acceptance into the organization reflects maintenance of an outstanding grade point average (3.5 averages, both within the major and overall), and those invited to join do so at the annual induction ceremonies of the local chapter. New members to the local chapter of SIGMA PI SIGMA are inducted in April every year.
