We offer placement tests in Spanish, French and German. We also offer an exam
in Russian by special arrangement.
Students who have previously studied a foreign language must take
a placement test in that language to determine whether or not they have
fulfilled the language requirement and which course is most appropriate for
them if they decide to continue their study of that language. The language
requirement at Stetson is proficiency at the 102 level. You may waive the
requirement by scoring well on the placement test. It will, therefore, benefit
you to make your best effort while taking the placement test. Plus, you may
decide to continue your study of the language and perhaps study abroad!
Students who wish to begin the study of a language that they have not
previously studied do not need to take the placement test in the new language.
The placement test is online and multiple-choice. There is no speaking
or listening component. Students may take the placement test two times prior
to beginning their study of the language here at Stetson.
If you have any questions, please contact the lab director, Dr.
Kathy Koberstein.

To take the test:
Students normally take the placement test prior to their
arrival at Stetson as a freshman or transfer student.
The placement test is also offered on Fridays during the
semester. Students can sign up on the office door of the lab director, 127
Sampson Hall.
Good luck on the exam!
