Financial Aid and Scholarships for Study Abroad

Financial Aid and Scholarships for Study Abroad

In recognition of the importance of study abroad, Congress designated 2006 as The Year of Study Abroad. To encourage students to participate in study abroad, a number of government-funded scholarships are available, such as Gilman, NSEP, Freeman-Asia, and Fulbright. Several other governments and private organizations offer similar opportunities.

All state and federal financial aid and Stetson scholarships apply to Stetson Abroad semester programs. Students accepted to Stetson Abroad programs should visit the office of financial aid to discuss the increase in their cost of education during the semester abroad-airfare, for example.

Students planning to study abroad on non-Stetson programs should check with the office of financial aid about the transfer of state and federal financial aid to their program of choice. Also, be sure to pick up the leaflet on obtaining approval to earn credit in a non-Stetson Abroad program.

It is the responsibility of the student to inform him/herself about financial aid and scholarships for study abroad and to meet all requirements and deadlines.

All prospective study abroad students for Stetson Abroad and non-Stetson Abroad programs should peruse the following web sites. A number of these scholarships are quite generous.
