OXFORD UNIVERSITY

Oxford, England

Stetson University offers an honors option for study at world-renowned Oxford University. Participants are classified as Registered Visiting Students with all of the privileges of Oxford University students. Oxford University is known for its academics, impressive architecture, and as the alma mater of kings and great scholars. It is the oldest English language university in the world, and students are immersed in a rich history and tradition dating back eight centuries.

Oxford’s system of education is unique. Generally, students choose two subjects per semester for intensive study. They meet with Oxford tutors (normally one-on-one) weekly, and tutorials are supported by lectures. Students are expected to keep up with a demanding schedule of reading and writing throughout the semester. Although there are some set course offerings, students can also create their own courses and tutors will usually be found to supervise.

Oxford is truly a university town. In addition to being a scholarly center, it boasts a vibrant student culture with a variety of nightspots, cafes, theatres, and museums. Students are encouraged to take full advantage of the Oxford experience by joining one or more of the hundreds of student societies and organizations on campus.

Excursions may include trips to Cambridge, Stratford- upon-Avon, and London. Excursions change each semester.

The Stetson Abroad program is competitive. Enrollment is limited in all programs. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee admission to a given program in a given semester.

Overview:

Cost

  • The cost of the Oxford program is significantly higher than the cost of other Stetson Abroad programs or the cost to study on the DeLand campus. Contact the Center for International Education for information.

  • Stetson merit aid, federal aid, state grants (such as FRAG), and other scholarships for study at Stetson are available for study abroad when the program of study is a Stetson Abroad program. Employee tuition benefits do not apply to study abroad programs. (In the event you decide to study abroad through a non-Stetson Abroad program, the financial aid you receive would more than likely not be available to use.)  It is important to contact the Office of Financial Aid to determine the best course of action for your particular situation.

  • Stetson assists with basic expenses abroad including: tuition, housing, food, international health insurance, and some excursions.
Expenses not covered include: travel to and from the study site (including airfare, train and bus travel), passport, visa, document mailings, and room deposits. Furthermore, meals in restaurants, personal travel, entertainment, etc. come at extra cost to the student. Participants are advised to have at least $100-200 per week abroad in personal funds available to them.
