To Be in Honors...or Not To Be in Honors

Honors is right for you if…

  • You might like mixing your physics with your literature, your art with your politics, your biology with your sociology, and your psychology with your music.
  • You prefer discussion classes to lecture classes.
  • You can tolerate open-ended questions, with no definite answers.
  • You're willing to exercise your own initiative rather than depending always on explicit instructions from teachers.
  • You like (or are willing) to do a lot of reading and writing.
  • You might like to define your own major.
  • You like being in classes with students similar to you in interests and ability.
  • You like having a close relationship with professors.
  • You like the idea of living in Honors Housing.

Honors is probably not right for you if:

  • You are a "just the facts" type of person and don't like to explore questions without definite answers.
  • You are uncomfortable with reading and writing assignments.
  • You prefer to avoid issues of controversy and active debate.
  • You don't like mixing your physics with your literature, your art with your politics, your biology with your sociology, or your psychology with your music.
  • You plan to complete your college degree in two years or less.
