 PKAL Leadership

Several faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences are participating in a national leadership initiative sponsored by Project Kaleidoscope (PKAL), an organization devoted to improving undergraduate science education.  To be accepted to participate in the Leadership Initiative, the team submitted a proposal describing their agenda to improve the natural science curriculum for non-science majors at Stetson.  Ultimately, team members envision their participation in this project as an opportunity to think critically about the kinds of scientific knowledge all reflective citizens of the 21st century should possess and about the most effective ways to impart that knowledge to students.  PKAL will help the team accomplish their agenda with a series of seminars that include informational meetings as well as time for group planning.  To encourage team members to think of themselves as leaders of educational reform they were first asked to read an essay entitled The Tasks of Leadership, by John Gardner, and respond with a collective reflection. Team members will travel to Baltimore in October to participate in their first seminar.
