Submitting a Proposal to the Institutional Review
Board for Human Participants
Please send an electronic copy of your proposed
project to the Chair of the IRB for Human Participants, Alicia Schultheis, at aschulth@stetson.edu
Your proposal should include:

A brief background to justify the study, with
references. Pay special attention to justifying any potential risks to
subjects, which may include:
-
the use of active deception
-
the collection of sensitive information
-
physical stress (e.g. running a treadmill, lifting
weights)
-
mental stress (e.g. exposure to emotionally
charged material)
-
invasive procedures (e.g. blood draws, ingestion
of caffeine)
-
A methods section, complete with a description of
participants, materials/equipment, and procedures.
-
A copy of the informed consent document to be used
-
A description of how you will assure sensitive
information will be kept confidential
-
A description of the debriefing procedure you will
use

Your proposal will be electronically submitted to
the IRB members, who currently include:
Toni L. Blum, Associate Professor of Psychology
Alicia Schultheis, Assistant Professor of Biology
Susan Hewlings, Assistant Professor of Integrative
Health Sciences
John Rasp, Associate Professor of Decision and
Information Sciences
Robert Batey, Professor of Law
They will review your proposal and communicate to
you within seven days of receipt.
