Proposal
to the Dean's Fund for Senior Project Research
|
|

|
|
To apply for a small grant to
support your senior research project, please address the following topics as
clearly and succinctly as possible. Your responses should closely reflect
intentions announced in your senior project proposal. Grants are awarded on a
rolling basis, as funds are available, but priority is given to requests
filed before or early in the first semester of the senior year (by September
for May graduates or January for December graduates). Completed proposals
should be given to the Faculty Director for your project and forwarded by her
or him to the Dean's Office. The review process generally takes no more than
2 weeks.

|
|
- Cover Page with title of project, your
name, your project director's name, your degree (B.A./B.S.) and major(s),
your anticipated date of graduation, and the date of submission of your
proposal. (Form available from the Dean's Office).
- Letter of Endorsement of the Proposal and the
Funding Request from the Faculty Director of your Senior Project.
- Description of
research/creative project. (What is the question or problem to be addressed?
What is the working hypothesis or creative idea concerning that
question? You may attach your senior project proposal in response to
this section.)
- Justification of the research
or creative work. (What significant work has been accomplished in this area?
Discuss 3 significant items from your review of the literature or
selected bibliography. Why should this research/art project be
undertaken? Of what importance is it? How does it help you fulfill your
academic goals?)
- Explanation of the method and
procedure.
(How will the research or creative work be conducted? In what order will
various stages of the project be completed? What resources will be used?
If the resources are not locally available, how will they be acquired?
Note below the need for a calendar of expenditures.)
- Budget for the project and
calendar of expenditures. Explain the total budget for your project, and using the
standard form, "Budget for Proposals to the Dean's Fund for
Undergraduate Research," itemize
expenses for which you are asking support. Provide a chronology,
answering the question, "When does what amount of money need to be
spent on what?" Explain other sources of funds, including your own
contribution. For items requested in section 4 of the
"Budget," Library Materials and Equipment, explain how these
contributions will strengthen the receiving Stetson department. Especially
welcome are joint proposals or proposals that will provide
materials or equipment to support future undergraduate research at
Stetson

Dissemination of Results and Final
Evaluation.
Briefly explain how your senior project will be evaluated and how your
results will be published to the Stetson Community and other academic and
professional bodies. It is expected that all funded projects will list that
support in the Acknowledgements Page of the Senior Project. It is
further expected that all supported projects will be presented at Undergraduate
Scholarship Day. When this is not possible (because of Dec. graduation,
for instance), seniors will be expected to present their work in a publicized
campus event (senior project oral presentation) or at a regional or national
professional meeting. Upon completion of the project, and no later than the
beginning of the final exam period before graduation, the applicant must
provide an abstract (150 words); a brief, but specific self-evaluation
(300 words); and a brief assessment of the project by the faculty director.
