The Writing Program at Stetson

The Writing Program at Stetson University

The Foundation Writing course at Stetson University, ENGL 101 Writing and Rhetoric, ensures that every student, regardless of the level of preparation, acquires the essential college-level writing, thinking, and reading skills necessary for academic success. Each course practices the skills of effective writing, research, argument, and analysis. Each course teaches skills that are important to doing well at Stetson and beyond: critical thinking, rhetorical dexterity, audience analysis, research skills.

Among our distinguished teaching faculty are winners of awards for teaching excellence, authors of textbooks and handbooks, scholars in rhetoric, composition, and a range of literary genres, and both creative and non-fiction authors. We bring a lot to the classroom.

The Department of English, located in Flagler Hall, also houses the Stetson University Writing Center (Flagler 209). This tutoring lab is one of the most popular on campus, because the tutors are well trained and have often had the same instructors as the student seeking tutoring.
