Multicultural Education Institute
This
program provides community awareness to local educators who showcase
multicultural awareness and experiences in their teaching curriculum. With the
support of the DeLand Chamber of Commerce and local businesses, awards are
presented to educators at elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Founded
in 1991 by Dr.
Patrick Coggins, the Jesse Ball duPont Endowed Chair of Education, the MEI
pioneered the first multicultural education conference at Stetson University
in 1992. The MEI is committed to hosting multicultural education conferences,
workshops on cultural diversity, and cultural competence to close the
achievement gap.
