What do we do?
We have put together a “Magic Show” for elementary school children, in which we do cool and fun experiments in the lab that will get the kids interested in the sciences. We also do community service by collecting sample sizes of soaps, shampoos and toiletries for the Domestic Abuse Council. In the spring, we help area Boy Scouts to earn their Science Badges. We helped about 100 Boy Scouts in February 2004.

We were given a Certificate of Recognition in the spring of 2003 by the Department of Student Life, Stetson University, for Service to the Community.

We were also awarded an Honorable Mention for our efforts in 2001-2002 by the American Chemical Society.

What is the American Chemical Society?
The American Chemical Society is a professional organization of more than 150,000 individual members at all degree levels and in all fields of chemistry. It is based in Washington, D.C. We have provided a link on this page to the ACS web site.

Do I have to be a Chemistry/Biochemistry Major to join SAACS?
Absolutely not! In fact, Rachel Dykes, the President of the Stetson Chapter of SAACS in 2001-2002, when we won Honorable Mention, was a Biology major, who is now enrolled in a Medical Technology Program in Jacksonville. You just have to have an interest in helping in our activities, in order to join SAACS.
